That’s why when folks ask me the value of a banjo they’ve inherited, I’m becoming increasingly hesitant to answer.

This full complement drawn cup needle roller bearing is suitable for applications with high dynamic loads. It has a smaller cross-section than a machined needle roller bearing for use in restricted mounting spaces. The full complement of rollers provides a higher radial load-carrying capacity than caged rollers. The needle rollers are made of through-hardened, high-carbon chromium steel for durability and heat tolerance, and have contoured ends to optimize the distribution of contact stress.
This radial needle roller bearing meets ASTM International standard ASTM F for quality assurance, and is used in various applications, such as automotive and truck transmissions, agricultural and construction equipment, pumps and compressors, and two-cycle engines, among others.. Roller bearings use rolling elements to maintain a separation between moving parts to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads.
These elements can be one of the following types: ball, cylindrical, spherical, barrel, needle, spindle, or tapered. Roller bearings can be open on both ends a shaft can pass through or open on one end and closed on the other. An open end can be sealed or shielded to protect the bearing from solid contaminants and moisture that could reduce its lifespan. If an end is sealed, the sealing component is an elastomer lip that contacts the shaft.
If it is shielded, the shielding is a non-contact lip, usually made of metal. Rolling bearings are used in a range of applications from agricultural machinery to conveying equipment, robotics, dental equipment, elevators, rolling mills, ship rudder shafts, and aggregate crushers, among others.. Bearings USA manufactures needle roller bearings, bearing assemblies, and needle rollers for automotive and industrial applications.

Strings for a vintage Silvertone. As I posted elsewhere I found a couple of vintage guitars at a swapmeet today. One is a Silvertone that seems to be dated ‘ It’s a steel string with the strings terminated in a tailpiece rather than bridge pins. The top is in good shape and doesn’t appear to be caved in. I’d like to keep it that way, but I’d also like to restring it. I guess I can put a caliper on the old strings that are on it now, but I’m hoping a few of you have experience with a similar instrument.
Do you think I can use lights on this or should I go to extra lights? From the photo in the other post about the 59 Silvertone, it looks like the top is birch most likely solid , the back and sides are most likely the same too. I would slap a set of lights on it and not look back.
